Despite Angel Reese’s strong rookie season, the Chicago Sky struggled, finishing last in the Eastern Conference at 13-27 and missing the WNBA playoffs for the first time in six years. However, hope is on the horizon as Reese enters her second season with the Sky.
On the Jan. 9 episode of “The Chicago Lead,” Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times discussed potential free agent targets for the Sky.
One standout player highlighted as a potential addition to the Chicago roster was a star guard who has played alongside A’ja Wilson for most of her career.
“Kelsey (Plum) has a strong connection with Tyler Marsh, which could pave the way for a move to the Sky,” Costabile mentioned.
Plum, a left-handed scoring threat with an expiring contract worth $400,000, won two championships with the Las Vegas Aces in 2022 and 2023.
During that time, Marsh served as an assistant coach and head of player development with the Aces, eventually landing the head coach position in Chicago in 2024.
While Plum’s ties to Marsh provide a potential advantage for the Sky, Costabile also pointed out reasons why the three-time All-Star might choose not to join Chicago.
“Kelsey comes from a place with top-notch facilities and resources, something the Sky currently lack,” Costabile explained.
While the Sky struggled, finishing at the bottom of the East, the Aces thrived with a 27-13 record and a second seed in the Western Conference. Las Vegas made it to the second round of the 2024 playoffs, losing to the eventual champions, the New York Liberty.
Chicago Sky fans hope Angel Reese can recruit former lottery pick
Aside from Plum, fans are urging Angel Reese to recruit another free agent to Chicago. Social media buzz around Reese potentially recruiting this player has been growing.
After a TikTok exchange between Reese and Dallas Wings forward Satou Sabally, fans have been vocal about wanting to see Sabally in a Chicago jersey.
“Definitely we need her on our team,” one fan commented.
“Babe go get some Chicago merch now we need this one,” another fan added.
