The latest report indicates that the Los Angeles Dodgers will not be trading for All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado this winter. It has been reported that the Dodgers did not participate in any trade talks involving the 10-time Gold Glove winner.
According to The Athletic’s Katie Woo, the Dodgers, who were previously believed to be a top choice for Arenado, did not engage in any discussions about acquiring him this offseason.
Despite Arenado’s interest in joining a contender and the speculation that followed his Instagram posts referencing the Dodgers, it appears that he will not be joining the reigning World Series champions.
Rumors surrounding the trade also sparked discussions about the fate of Max Muncy. However, it seems that these rumors can be put to rest as Arenado is likely to remain with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak provided a bleak update on Arenado’s chances of being traded to a championship-caliber team, stating that there has been little progress in finding him a new team.
With Arenado rejecting a trade to the Houston Astros, his options to leave St. Louis have diminished. The Cardinals are only willing to trade Arenado if the acquiring team is willing to take on a significant portion of his remaining salary.
It now appears that Arenado and the Cardinals may be together until at least the trade deadline in July. The possibility of Arenado joining the Dodgers seems more like a dream than a reality at this point.
