It’s pretty much a given at this point that Ryan Garcia will have a rematch with Devin Haney before 2025 is over, but it won’t be Haney’s next fight who will test the waters at 147 lbs first. That leaves some open time for Garcia in the interim, and if you’ve been following social media in recent days there are indications that Ryan Garcia may fight Teofimo Lopez next.
Yesterday Garcia posted a message on X which said “I can’t wait for you guys to see who I’m fighting. One thing you can’t say about me is I take weak fights ever. Only one really doing it.”
Later in the day Turki Alalshikh posted his own message and photo of Garcia signing a contract while writing “The deal is done. The opponent is set. Big news coming soon. Exclusive in the Ring Magazine. Lets get boxing great again.”
That promoted a lot of speculation on who Garcia’s next opponent might actually be, but with Teofimo Lopez chiming in to retweet Alalshikh, it seems to point in a particular direction.
“Let’s the games begin,” Lopez posted on X with a handshake emoji, with Lopez also tagging Alalshikh.
Obviously based upon Alalshikh’s own post a formal announcement of Garcia’s next fight will come through Ring Magazine, which was recently acquired by Alalshikh, but the tea leaves seem pretty clear as far as I can read them.
