The Golden State Valkyries, the WNBA’s newest franchise, are making waves before even stepping onto the court. Guard Kate Martin, selected in last month’s WNBA Expansion Draft, recently shared insights into the Valkyries’ game plan under head coach Natalie Nakase and general manager Ohemaa Nyanin.
“We want to shoot a lot of 3s, just play fast-paced,” Martin told Kendra Andrews of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter. “I try to implement that into my practice every day.”
Martin, entering her second season after limited playing time with the Las Vegas Aces, is poised for a breakout role in Golden State’s perimeter-focused, high-octane system. As the former Iowa Hawkeyes standout hinted, it seems the Valkyries are embracing an up-tempo style that mirrors the offensive philosophy of their NBA counterpart, the Golden State Warriors.
