Overland Park, KS – At the third annual ITA NAIA Men’s and Women’s National Team Indoor Championships, the semifinalists are now set after Friday’s opening round of play which featured eight of the top men’s and women’s NAIA programs.
Held once again at the Overland Park Racquet Club, play started bright and early with the opening round of women’s quarterfinal play kicking off at 8 am (CST). With matches throughout the day, fans were treated to eight highly competitive matches as teams fight to claim the first National Championship of the spring season.
Beginning with the women’s quarterfinals, all four top seeded teams earned victories on the opening day of competition. Highlighted by sweeps from our 2023 National Champions, Keiser (2), and our 2024 National Champions, Georgia Gwinnett (1), both teams looked poised to make deep runs once again in this year’s championship.
Across our other quarterfinal matches, 2024 National Runners-Up, Xavier (LA) (3), held off a strong effort from Middle Georgia State to advance to the semifinals. Meanwhile, in our closest match of the day, Lindsey Wilson mounted a comeback for the ages against Southeastern (FL) winning 4-3 to keep their championship hopes alive.
From the men’s quarterfinals, three of the four top seeded teams advanced to the next round of play with William Carey (5) being the only team outside of the top four seeds to move along in the main draw on Friday. The past two National Team Indoor Champions, Keiser (2023) and Georgia Gwinnett (2024), each earned opening round wins to keep their sights on another finals appearance.
Joining William Carey, Keiser, and Georgia Gwinnett in the semifinals will be Tennessee Wesleyan (3). The 2024 ITA Team Indoor Runners-Up are seeking a return to the finals in which they fell to the Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett in a closely contested match.
Tomorrow’s action will begin once again at 8 am (CT) from the Overland Park Racquet Club. Women’s matches will once again lead the day with men’s and women’s matches alternating throughout the day.
