Allen’s arrival is expected to boost the Chicago Sky’s shooting capabilities significantly. Her 35% three-point shooting percentage is a testament to her sharpshooting skills. Beyond her shooting, Allen’s veteran experience and defensive abilities are expected to bring a new dynamic to the team. Allen played in 18 games for Phoenix last year before hurting her hamstring, that kept her out of the Olympics for Australia. Allen averaged 7.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in 18 starts for the Mercury.
Kia Nurse
Nurse played last year for the Los Angeles Sparks and averaged 7.6 points last season for the Los Angeles Sparks, shooting 33% from 3-point range. Nurse is another player who could hit outside shots for the Sky. She will also provide veteran leadership for the young players on Chicago’s roster. In addition to shooting, the nurse can also play defense, offering promising potential for the team’s success.
Outlook
Chicago was last in three-pointers made last season with 193. So, I know Sky’s new head coach, Tyler Marsh, wants to shoot on his roster. The Sky was eighth on opponents’ points per game, giving 82.5, so the defense must also be addressed. With the addition of Allen and Nurse, Chicago is strongly committed to improving its performance and is headed in the right direction. Adding players that can shoot from the outside will only help Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso get open looks inside.
