Mercury forward Satou Sabally holds her jersey with general manager Nick U’Ren along with coach Nate Tibbetts, guard Kahleah Copper and Josh Bartelstein, CEO Suns and Mercury, during a news conference at the Phoenix Mercury Practice Facility after signing as a free agent in Phoenix on Feb. 4, 2025.
Mercury is no longer in retrograde or whatever the kids say these days.
Landing Satou Sabally (after a two-year pursuit) *and* Alyssa Thomas is a home run for Phoenix’s front office. If you’re going to lose Brittney Griner and possibly Diana Taurasi, drying your tears with Satou and AT is one heck of a turnaround.
Phoenix also lost Sophie Cunningham, Natasha Cloud and Rebecca Allen, which couldn’t have been easy. However, they picked up Sevgi Uzun, Kalani Brown and Sami Whitcomb while adjusting to the roster changes.
Overall, Phoenix did a superb job, and I shudder to think about the elite hoops that will be had with Kahleah Copper, Satou and AT at the helm. The other teams might be cooked, I’m afraid.
