Evanston & Champaign, IL – Our four semifinalists are now set at the 2025 ITA Division I Women’s National Team Indoor Championships as Virginia, Georgia, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma have all advanced after earning wins in Saturday’s quarterfinal action.
Featuring three SEC programs and one ACC program, both Georgia and Texas A&M reached the Team Indoor semifinals in 2023, while Oklahoma last reached the semifinals in 2022. Georgia is the only team remaining who has won an ITA Team Indoor Championship previously having taken the title in 1994, 1995, 2002, 2007, 2008, and 2019.
Taking out the two seeds North Carolina and Michigan, Virginia (3) and Oklahoma (6) both won thrilling 4-3 matches to open up quarterfinal play this afternoon.
After dropping the doubles point, Virginia had their backs against the wall the entire match before staging a thrilling comeback on the brink of defeat to tame the Tar Heels for the second time this season. Sara Ziodato delivered the clinch for the Cavaliers, fending off match points before closing out the match is a third set tiebreaker. Virginia earned wins on lines No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6 to secure the win.
For Oklahoma, they just needed three singles wins after a strong showing in doubles helped them enter singles with the one point advantage. Earning straight set wins on No. 2 and No. 6 singles courts, it was Oklahoma native Emma Staker closing out the match for the Sooners, delivering a 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (4) victory from the No. 4 singles court.
In our other two semifinals, top seeds Georgia and Texas A&M faced tough opposition from Auburn and Texas on the afternoon but did enough to move on to the semifinals. Georgia earned a decisive 4-1 victory, winning the doubles point and the No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 singles courts. Meanwhile, for Texas A&M, they won a tightly contested doubles point before relying on wins from courts No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5 to push them past the finish line.
All four semifinalists will now have Sunday off as a travel day from site-to-site. Consolation matches will continue at Illinois and Northwestern on Sunday with the first consolation match beginning at 12 pm (CST) at Illinois and 1 pm (CST) at Northwestern. Semifinalists will be back in action on Monday, February 10, while the finals are set for Monday, February 11. Fans are encouraged to follow along with the action on social media (@ITA_Tennis).
