On weekday mornings, Nevada Sports Net will recap three big headlines of the day in its Morning Download. Read below for today’s topics.
1. Nevada basketball bullies Bulldogs
The Wolf Pack men’s basketball team bushwhacked Fresno State, overcoming a slow start to score a 94-69 victory on Monday night at Lawlor Events Center. Nevada’s 94 points were its second most in a game this season with the 25-point margin of victory being the fourth biggest (and largest in conference play). Nevada scored 134.1 points per 100 possessions, its third-best mark this season with the team doing damage on the inside (forwards Nick Davidson and Justin McBride combined for 44 points on 19-of-24 shooting) and the outside (the Wolf Pack made 13-of-29 3-pointers, tied for its second-most 3-point makes this season). Nevada improved to 14-10 overall and 6-7 in the Mountain West thanks after its third straight win. Here is our game story and the team’s post-game press conference.
2. Gabby Williams re-signs with Seattle Storm
Reed High graduate Gabby Williams resigned with the WNBA’s Seattle Storm on Monday. Williams has spent much of her recent pro career overseas but will get more time in the W this season. Seattle designated Williams as a “core player” last month, keeping her from unrestricted free agency. At the time, the Storm reassured Williams they would move her if she wished to play elsewhere, but she will stay in Seattle on a one-year deal. Williams is a two-time Olympic medalist who helped Team France win silver in the Paris Games last summer. She then finished the 2024 season with Seattle, averaging 10.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.7 steals in 12 games. Williams has played only 58 WNBA games in the last four seasons due to injuries and international commitments. “We’re excited to have Gabby back with us in Seattle this season,” Storm head coach Noelle Quinn said in a statement. “Gabby is such a versatile player who is dangerous both on the offensive and defensive end. She’s a student of the game and is constantly striving for excellence, which showed during her stellar Olympic performance last summer. I know her contributions this year are going to be game-changing for our team.”
3. Nevada alum Korey Rush hired by Washington
Former Wolf Pack defensive tackle Korey Rush is headed to Washington to join the Huskies’ staff, per CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Rush was Portland State’s defensive line coach/pass rush specialist last season and was on Idaho State’s staff the year prior. So, he’ll make the jump from the FCS to the FBS and work under second-year head coach Jedd Fisch. Washington’s run game coordinator and defensive line coach is Jason Kaufusi, who was at Nevada from 2017-18 where he coached Rush to All-Mountain West honors. During five seasons at Nevada from 2014-18, Rush had 109 tackles, 27 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks and two passes defended. He was named first-team All-MW as a senior in 2018 when he had 34 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and six sacks, ranking top 10 in the MW in the latter two categories.
