After a fantastic first week, Week 2 of Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball already is here.
Games resume Wednesday, Feb. 12, with a matinee matchup between Team Nurse and Team Siegrist (11:30 a.m. ET, ESPN+), followed by a evening contest featuring Team Bradford and Team Harris (8 p.m. ET, ESPN+).
Here’s a look back at how Crystal Bradford (Gold), Maddy Siegrist (Orange), Kia Nurse (Blue) and Ty Harris (Purple) earned captaincies before a peek ahead at what to watch for in Week 2:
Bradford balled out for Team Westbrook in Week 1
The final game of Week 1 proved most consequential, with Team Harrison trying to prevent Team Westbrook from completing a perfect 3-0 week. They did so, despite a game-high 20 points from Crystal Bradford for Team Westbrook, who also grabbed a game-best nine rebounds. Those numbers helped Bradford end Week 1 atop the AU Leaderboard with 1525 points, making her a captain for Week 2. Bradford earned points from everywhere and by doing everything, including by capturing a league-leading 90 points from steals.
Maddy Siegrist, who was instrumental in Team Harrison’s victory over Team Westbrook, sits second on the Leaderboard with 1440 points and also is a captain for Week 2. Siegrist has been the league’s most effective 2-point scorer, totaling 500 points for making shots inside the arc.
This is both Bradford’s and Siegrist’s second AU seasons, with Bradford participating in 2023 and Siegrist joining last season. Despite being a newcomer, Kia Nurse had little trouble adjusting to AU, vaulting up the Leaderboard and nearly matching Siegrist with 1430 total points. Now a Week 2 captain, Nurse netted 240 points from 3-pointers, a mark matched by Ty Harris, her teammate on Team Westbrook during Week 1. With 1418 total points, Harris, who also is in her first AU season, claimed the final captain slot.
The full results from Week 1 were:
Wednesday, Feb. 5
Team West 114, Team Bell 72
Team Harrison 77, Team Colson 66
Friday, Feb. 7
Team Westbrook 94, Team Colson 73
Team Bell 91, Team Harrison 71
Saturday, Feb. 8
Team Colson 82, Team Bell 63
Team Harrison 74, Team Westbrook 68
Who’s playing for who in Week 2
Captains Bradford, Siegrist, Nurse and Harris drafted their Week 2 teams on Monday. Here’s how the squads shook out:
Team Bradford (Gold): Crystal Bradford, Bria Hartley, Alysha Clark, Jaylyn Sherrod, Desi-Rae Young, Kiara Leslie, McKenzie Forbes, Suriya McGuire, Dorie Harrison
Team Siegrist (Orange): Maddy Siegrist, Odyssey Sims, Isabelle Harrison, Maya Caldwell, Sequoia Holmes, Lydia Rivers, Taj Cole, Kenisha Bell, Charisma Osborne
Team Nurse (Blue): Kia Nurse, Alissa Pili, Sydney Colson, Evina Westbrook, Kierstan Beel, G’mrice Davis, Shey Peddy, Angel Jackson, Jude Schimmel
Team Harris (Purple): Tyasha Harris, Elizabeth Williams, Theresa Plaisance, Lexie Brown, Asia Taylor, Christyn Williams, Taylor Mikesell, Rebecca Harris, Dyaisha Fair
In fifth place on the AU Leaderboard, Bria Hartley was the first pick by Bradford. Siegrist then went with AU vet Odyssey Sims, who earned the most points via free throws in Week 1. Nurse then nabbed AU rookie Alissa Pili, who impressed in Week 1 as a member of Team Colson. Harris’ first selection was Elizabeth Williams, who was her teammate on Team Westbrook last week and sits sixth on the Leaderboard; in Week 1, she earned the most points from blocks and tied for the most points from rebounds.
By drafting a traditional big in Williams before picking up a stretch big in Theresa Plaisance, the league’s most prolific 3-point shooter in Week 1, Harris constructed a strategically interesting team, especially with Lexie Brown, another noted 3-pointer shooter who had a productive Week 1 for Team Harrison, joining Harris in the backcourt. The team will have the opportunity to create a lot of space for Harris to run pick-and-rolls with Williams, a superb screener who has improved as a finisher in recent years. Or, it’s a lot of space in which Dyaisha Fair can cook. Harris’ final draft pick, Fair didn’t establish a rhythm as a member of Team Bell in Week 1, but it would be surprising if she doesn’t have an explosive scoring outburst before the season ends.
