The WNBA had multiple head coaching openings this past offseason. The likes of Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark saw their head coaches losing their jobs after the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky felt those coaches hadn’t done a good enough job.
Then those seven teams went about starting to hire replacements. During that period, seeing the lack of quality coordinators made many to think that some teams might just swap coaches. The only team to do that was Clark’s Indiana Fever who hired Connecticut Sun’s Stephanie White.
Other than her, all six remaining teams went with fresh faces. Some of them are accomplished at their previous jobs, while some were question marks. Angel Reese for instance saw Las Vegas Aces’ much-loved and highly rated Tyler Marsh become her next head coach.
Another Aces assistant became the head coach of the Golden State Valkyries expansion team. The others did not immediately come with WNBA coaching experience. Reese had Hall of Famer Lisa Leslie on her podcast Unapologetically Angel earlier and asked her if she ever wanted to coach.
The three-time league MVP will not look at applying for another head coaching job in the WNBA again. She believes she was better skilled and qualified than those who were hired. That makes her reiterate that it is difficult for a black woman to get that job.
Lisa Leslie can help fix Angel Reese’s game
Lisa Leslie might not have revealed which two teams rejected her. She might not look to become a head coach again, but she won’t stop helping players with their game. The 52-year-old had this to say about the Chicago Sky star’s game.
The 8-time All-Star has worked with Angel Reese in these past few days at the Unrivaled League facilities. From what she has gathered, it seems she wants to help the WNBA rebounding phenom take the next level.
The 22-year-old already has an elite motor. If she gets help on her close-range scoring, it can help her improve drastically. She is already a walking double double. Once those layups get fixed, she could be a consistent 20-point 12-rebounder every night.
