Brittney Griner inducted into Texas Sports Hall of Fame

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – Brittney Griner headlined the 2025 class inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame Saturday afternoon.

The four-time All-American and former top overall WNBA Draft pick boasts a long list of accolades that will now forever be commemorated in the halls of Texas.

“Staying grounded is something that my parents taught me,” said Griner. “That honestly helped me out through my whole career. I don’t think I ever changed from Nimitz High School to Baylor to the pros and to the Olympics. That’s honestly what helped me out the most.”

Griner was inducted alongside seven other Texas sports legends:

Brittney Griner – McDonald’s All-American at Nimitz High School (Houston), 4x All-American & 2012 National Champion at Baylor University, 10x WNBA All-Star

Cedric Benson – 8,423 career rushing yards at Robert E. Lee High School (Midland), All-American running back at the University of Texas, Doak Walker Award winer (2004)

Todd Dodge – 233-72 record as head HSFB coach (2025), 7x State Champion, three consecutive state titles at botn Southlake Carroll and Austin Westlake

Biz Mackey – Eagle Pass, Texas native, 5x Negro League East-West All Star selection, 2x Negro League World Series champion

Chris Plonsky – Currently in 37th year at University of Texas, UT women’s athletic director from 2001-2018, 64 conference championships, 3 national titles

Ed “Too Tall” Jones – 1974 first overall NFL Draft pick (Dallas Cowboys), 3x Pro Bowl, 3x All-Pro selection

Carla Overbeck – Richardson, Texas native, 4x National Champion at University of North Carolina, U.S. Women’s National Team (1988-2000, soccer)

Richmond Webb – Dallas, Texas native, 1986 & 1987 Southwest Conference Champion at Texas A&M, 7x NFL Pro Bowl selection, 2x All-Pro
