It had only been a few days since NaLyssa Smith was traded to the Dallas Wings. Later, she was joined by her girlfriend, DiJonai Carrington. However, both stars soon found themselves at the center of relationship speculation. It all started when Smith and her longtime girlfriend unfollowed each other on Instagram. Given their history of ups and downs, the worst was immediately assumed. But now that Carrington has her eyes locked on another star. Will the speculation turn out to be true?
This weekend, Carrington was busy at NBA All-Star Weekend as she participated in the Hennessy Arena 2 by 2 showcase alongside Arike Ogunbowale. The duo took home the win, but the real highlight of the night? It was R&B star Victoria Monét sitting courtside.
As expected, Carrington wasted no time expressing her admiration for the star. After spotting Monét, she made her way over to greet her before taking to social media to gush over the singer. “She’s so beautiful, y’all (crying emoji),” Carrington wrote, making it clear she was in full fangirl mode.

To top it off, she and Ogunbowale even managed to snap a photo with Monét after the game. Quite evidently, it wasn’t just a win on the court but also a dream come true for Carrington. But the question here is: Is this the right time to do this? Probably not! This move only added fuel to her breakup rumors.
Despite teaming up with gf, DiJonai Carrington suffers relationship speculation
NaLyssa Smith and Carrington’s relationship has been one of the most talked-about love stories in the WNBA. Their love story began during their time at Baylor in the 2020-21 season. It was when Carrington transferred to Baylor from Stanford, while Smith was already one of the best players in the nation.
Over time, their bond deepened, evolving from a strong friendship into a romantic relationship. After the end of their collegiate careers, both of them were drafted into the WNBA. While Smith was the No. 2 overall pick in 2022, Carrington joined the Connecticut Sun in 2021. Though they played for different teams, their love for each other remained strong.
Then came the 2024 rookie class, where the Indiana Fever drafted Caitlin Clark to play alongside Smith. As Clark transitioned to the professional game, Carrington found herself involved in multiple incidents with the 23-year-old Iowa native. First, there was the physical play by Carrington, and then the famous eye poke. All of this led fans to believe that Smith’s relationship with Carrington was affecting team chemistry.
As the controversy grew, so did the criticism directed at Smith. After spending the first four years of her professional career with the Connecticut Sun, Carrington will soon be suiting up for the Dallas Wings in 2025. This move happened after she was traded to the Wings on February 2 as part of a deal that sent her and the No. 12 pick to Dallas in exchange for Jacy Sheldon and the No. 8 overall pick in a four-team trade.

Ultimately, Smith also joined her at the Wings after being traded from the Fever. The trade was seen as a fresh start for Smith, who had struggled in Indiana, posting career-low averages of 10.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in 2024. The move also reunited her with Carrington, who had been traded to the Wings just a day earlier.

Just when it seemed like everything was finally settling down, Smith and Carrington once again found themselves in the spotlight. On February 14, the couple unfollowed each other on Instagram. And what else do you expect? It was speculated that they had broken up, especially after they deleted photos of each other from their accounts.
But this was only half the truth. Just a few hours later, Carrington re-followed Smith. The former Fever standout further silenced rumors by posting an Instagram story with the caption, “Ur Valentine.” Since it’s clear that the two are together for many more years, the focus now shifts to seeing their chemistry on the court.
