Lou Lopez Sénéchal and presumed No. 1 draft pick Paige Bueckers won’t reunite in Dallas for the 2025 season.
DALLAS — Dallas Wings former first-round pick Lou Lopez Sénéchal has decided to sit out the 2025 WNBA season, the team announced on Monday.
Had Sénéchal remained on the roster, she very likely would have been reunited with former UConn teammate Paige Bueckers. The Wings will have the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA draft, and many expect them to take Bueckers with that pick.
Lopez Sénéchal, 26, is the first Mexican-born player to be selected by a WNBA team and was selected fifth overall in the 2023 Draft.
She had to recover from an injury in 2023 and did not make her WNBA debut until 2024, appearing in 24 games with the Wings. Lopez Sénéchal had career-bests of seven points and two assists against the Minnesota Lynx.
She currently plays for Jairis in Spain, where she’s averaging 9.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists over 18 games.
Lou Lopez Sénéchal’s reason for sitting out has not been revealed.
Her absence will deal the Wings a significant blow during the 2025 season, however, the team will have a promising roster next season.
The Wings will be led by longtime franchise player Arike Ogunbowa, along with Maddy Siegrist who is returning for another season. The Wings also acquired DiJonai Carrington from the Connecticut Sun, NaLyssa Smith from the Indiana Fever, and Myisha Hines-Allen from the Minnesota Lynx.
