WORLD INDOORS NEWS (March 13, 2025)MELBOURNE (AUS): Reigning World Indoor Champion Nicola Olyslagers headlines the 20-strong Australian team for the World Indoor Championships. She will be joined in the women’s high jump by 2022 World Champion Eleanor Patterson. Also on the team are sprinters Torrie Lewis and Lachlan Kennedy, pole vaulters Kurtis Marschall and Camryn Newton-Smith in the pentathlon, the first Australian pentathlete at these championships since 1999.

ROME (ITA): A team of 21 athletes will represent Italy at next week’s World Indoor Championships. In the team are recent European Indoor Champions Andy Diaz Hernandez (triple jump) and Zaynab Dosso (60m), plus medallists Mattia Furlani (long jump) and Andrea Dallavalle (triple jump). Shot putters Leonardo Fabbri, Zane Weir, and hurdler Lorenzo Simonelli will also compete.

PRAGUE (CZE): The Czech Athletics Federation has announced 11 athletes will compete at the World Indoor Championships, including European Indoor Championship medallist Jan Stefela (high jump), Amalie Svabikova (pole vault), Vilem Strasky (heptathlon), Jakub Dudycha (800m) and Filip Sasinek (1500m).

AUCKLAND (NZL): New Zealand will send its largest-ever team to the World Indoor Championships, with 12 athletes. Reigning World Indoor Champion Hamish Kerr will look to defend his high jump title. Also on the team are shot putters Tom Walsh and Jacko Gill, Olympic silver medallist Maddi Wesche, pole vaulters Imogen Ayris and Olivia McTaggart, sprinter Zoe Hobbs, and 1500m runner Maia Ramsden.

NAIROBI (KEN): Athletics Kenya has selected five men and five women to represent Kenya at the World Indoor Championships. They include Olympians Lilian Odira and Vivian Chebet in the 800m, 2022 World Indoor silver medallist Noah Kibet in the 800m, Susan Ejore in the 1500m, and Cornelius Kemboi in the 3000m.

KINGSTON (JAM): Speaking to Television Jamaica, coach Stephen Francis has confirmed that Kishane Thompson suffered a slight ankle injury during training, so he will not compete at the World Indoor Championships. The injury meant Thompson required a few days rest, which resulted in him not being at his peak during the championships.

WARSAW (POL): The Polish Athletics Federation has announced that it will now send a women’s 4x400m team to the World Indoor Championships due to the reallocation of places. Joining Justyna Święty-Ersetic, previously announced for the individual 400m, will be Aleksandra Formella, Anastasia Kuś, Anna Maria Gryc, and Anna Palys.

TOKYO (JPN): An interesting Japanese entry is the national 110 m hurdles record holder Shunsuke Izumiya, who is listed for the long jump. His best is of good quality, 814 cm.

WORLD INDOORS NEWS (March 14, 2025)INDIANAPOLIS (USA): USATF has announced that 56 athletes will represent the United States of America at next week’s World Indoor Championships. ROME (ITA): Andrea Dallavalle has withdrawn from the Italian team for the World Indoor Championships due to a foot injury, FIDAL informs. Dallavalle won bronze at last weekend’s European Indoor Championships.

WORLD INDOORS NEWS (March 15, 2025)

BRIDGETOWN (BAR): Barbados will have a four-person team for Nanjing next week. Kishawna Niles for women in 60 m was the lone girl in the quartet announced by the Athletics Association of Barbados on Friday alongside Julian Forde in 60 m, Nikkolia Kennedy in 60m Hurdles, and Rasheeme Griffith in 400 m.

KINGSTON (JAM): Jamaica has named a solid squad for the upcoming World Indoors. The 23-member team features some of the island’s top indoor performers, including 60m hurdles sensation Ackera Nugent and Olympic long jump silver medalist Wayne Pinnock, who is expected to challenge for podium finishes in the long jump, 2019 World Champion Tajay Gayle also took part. With Olympic silver medalist Kishane Thompson ruled out due to injury, Nishion Ebanks and Rohan Watson will compete in the 60 m. Travis Williams is listed as a reserve. Men 4×400 m will also compete.

WORLD INDOORS NEWS (March 17, 2025)NANJING (CHN): World U20 champion Jana Koscak from Croatia was not in Apeldoorn but got the position in the Nanjing pentathlon. She is considering attacking the official U20 World record of 4542 points by Ukrainian Alina Shukh from 2017. “I can do it, but we’ll see how it turns out. I’m most afraid of the time difference because they’re seven hours ahead of us, and I always have a little trouble going from west to east. We’re traveling on Sunday, I hope I’ll adjust by Friday, and if everything goes well, I’ll try to chase the world record. Looking at my records by discipline, I have results for the record, but everything needs to match up; there are a lot of question marks,” she said for Sportske Novosti.

DUBLIN (IRL): Mark English (illness) and Cian McPhillips (injury) are two late withdrawals from the Irish team for the World Indoor Championships.

PARIS (FRA): European indoor 1500m champion Agathe Guillemot has pulled out of the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing due to flu.

PRAGUE (CZE): Due to illness, Radek Juška will not compete in the long jump at the World Indoor Championships.

BIRMINGHAM (GBR): Two-time European U20 cross-country champion Innes FitzGerald has also pulled out of the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing due to illness.

ST. GEORGE’S (GRN): Decathlon Olympic bronze medallist Lindon Victor informed on Instagram that he will not compete at the World Indoors.

STOCKHOLM (SWE): European indoor 60m bronze medallist Henrik Larsson has opted not to compete at the World Indoor Championships, informs SVT. “Now I want to beat my personal bests in 100 and 200 meters and see if I can dip under ten seconds in 100 meters. I really feel I have the potential for it,” he said.

PORT OF SPAIN (TTO): Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards, the 2022 World Indoor 400m champion, has opted to skip the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, to focus on the outdoor season, notably the inaugural Grand Slam Track Series (GST) and the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, in September. “With the Grand Slam and all the meets it has this year, and with the [World] Championship being late, I feel like it makes more sense to just focus on the outdoor season,” said Richards. Via Sportsmax.tv.

NANJING (CHN): Fresh European Indoor champion Attila Molnar from Hungary is already in China and has the first training behind him. It was in the outdoor stadium as the arena was undergoing the last preparations. For the Hungarian record holder, interesting news: with his colleagues, they will have only one race in the 4×400 m as entered are five teams besides Hungary, USA, Jamaica, Nigeria, and the home team of China.
