It’s hard not to think Russell Westbrook was responsible for the Denver Nuggets double-overtime loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves. His costly errors in the closing seconds blew a game the Nuggets should have won.
It only gets worse. After the NBA game, there was footage of Westbrook getting into it with a fan after the loss.

Another fan, “#TETRAGRAMMATON” mocked Westbrook for his actions, writing, “It’s not a proper wesbrick disaster class without the random beefing with a fan” while also sharing the popular GIF of an animated smoking duck.

Another fan named “Chief” called Westbrook out directly, writing, “Keep acting tough (Westbrook) you’re a f***ing bum.”
Nothing Westbrook did in this instance was out of the ordinary for him. He has never been one to shy away from fans if they provoke him. In fact, years ago, he got into it with a Nuggets fan back when he played for his first team, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Plays and Reacts With Passion
Westbrook has always been a passionate player, and he carries it from beginning to end. His love for the game is so strong that he will reciprocate with fans if they get into it with him when he’s flustered.
While his actions are inexcusable, they are also understandable, as Westbrook was likely extremely frustrated at himself for his part in how everything unfolded in the Nuggets’ loss against the Timberwolves.
Opting to take an open layup with the Nuggets ahead (that he badly missed), then fouling Nickeil Alexander-Walker in the game’s closing seconds ultimately sealed the Nuggets’ fate in a game they pretty much had in their hands.
So, seeing a fan rub it in his face afterward must have set Westbrook off when he was already angry about his ill-advised decisions that proved costly. Especially in losses like these.
This late in the season, the Nuggets are still competing for the highest seeding possible in the Western Conference playoff race. They can’t afford to lose tight matchups against some of their stiffest competition, like the Timberwolves.
It is all worse knowing that this game was in their hands until it wasn’t. If there’s one person who knows that, it’s Westbrook.
