During the 2010s, the Chicago Sky made a handful of great draft selections from smaller schools and non-powerhouse college programs. However, when the franchise won its first WNBA Championship in 2021, not a single one of these players was still on the roster to enjoy it.
Elena Delle Donne, who retired on Friday, was one of these players, as she shined for the Sky for four years after playing collegiately at the University of Delaware. In 2015, the organization also drafted Betnijah Laney-Hamilton from Rutgers and Cheyenne Parker-Tyus from Middle Tennessee State, both of whom have gone on to have successful careers in the WNBA, just not exclusively in Chicago.
