SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The 30th-ranked Notre Dame Women’s Tennis team shutout 35th-ranked Clemson 4-0 Friday afternoon inside the Eck Tennis Pavilion. Notre Dame improves to 16-4 overall, 6-3 in conference play and 11-2 on the home courts.
The Irish got two huge ranked doubles wins to secure the early point. At No. 1 doubles, Akari Matsuno/Carrie Beckman took down #32 Parravicini/Smejkalova 6-4 to clinch the point after Nibi Ghosh/Rylie Hanford defeated #47 Yecora/Cisovska 6-2. The Irish led 1-0 headed into singles.
Notre Dame would cruise in singles play. Matsuno, ranked #79, coasted to a 6-3, 6-0 win at the top singles slot. Bojana Pozder won in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles before Rylie Hanford clinched the match victory 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
The Irish will look to continue the home court success when the 26th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets come to town on Sunday at 11 a.m.
