On Sunday, Paige Bueckers and UConn women’s basketball defeated South Carolina in the national championship. It was a memorable final college basketball game for Bueckers to say the least. During the game, Caitlin Clark made an appearance on The Bird & Taurasi Show and was asked about Bueckers’ overall game.
“I think her poise, that’s something you need coming into the W,” Clark said. “It all hits you so fast. You’re moving to a new city, you’re trying to understand new teammates, you have a new coach while you’re trying to live up to all these expectations.
“I think that’s one of the greatest things about her game is just her poise and her maturity. Nothing ever seems to faze her. She’s always the same constant leader.”

Clark believes in Bueckers’ “poise” and potential as a leader in the WNBA. Bueckers has led UConn over the years, and it resulted in a championship win on Sunday. The Huskies will unquestionably miss the star guard.
Of course, Bueckers offers more than just poise. Clark addressed Bueckers’ playing ability as well.
“She can score at all three levels,” the Indiana Fever star continued. “She finishes well around the rim. Her mid-range game is some of the best I’ve honestly ever seen. Obviously she can score it from the three-point line, too. She can play point guard but she can also play off the ball.
“I think that will be an interesting dynamic with Arike (Ogunbowale), obviously, we all know she’s going number one. It will be interesting to see how they kind of put those two pieces together and how that will work.”
Bueckers, as Clark mentioned, is expected to be the first overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. The Dallas Wings have the pick and they will likely end up selecting her.
Bueckers’ all-around game should translate well to the next level. She can certainly play point guard, but Clark’s comment about Bueckers being able to play off the ball is also important. If the Wings select Bueckers, then Ogunbowale will also have the ball on a consistent basis. As a result, featuring the ability to still make an impact while playing off the ball will be crucial.
Paige Bueckers is currently celebrating her national championship win. Soon, however, she will be gearing up for the 2025 WNBA season. It will be must-watch basketball whenever Bueckers and Clark play against one another. The 2024 No. 1 and 2025 No. 1 overall picks going head-to-head will receive plenty of attention.
