Former interim featherweight champion Yair Rodriguez snapped a two-fight skid on Saturday, dominating former multiple-time Bellator champion Patricio “Pitbull” Freire on the UFC 314 main card in Miami.
Rodriguez largely nullified Freire’s offense by controlling distance and employing a variety of kicks. The fight went the distance but Rodriguez was the clear winner. Following the fight, the Mexican contender claimed he was promised a title shot if he beat Freire.
“It’s time to focus on what’s next. What’s next? Hunter Campbell (Chief UFC Business Officer) told me over the phone, he promised me. He said, ‘You win your next fight the title shot is next.’ Let’s do Mexico, September, Guadalajara. I want to fight for a title there.”
