The Dodgers have been slumping offensively in a way few saw coming.
Many pegged this team to have the most dominant offense in the sport. However, it hasn’t exactly shook out that way thus far in April. As of April 16, the quartet of Max Muncy, Miguel Rojas, Andy Pages, and Kiké Hernandez are all batting less than .200. Offseason acquisition Michael Conforto is hitting just above The Mendoza Line.
Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Teoscar Hernandez have all missed time for various injuries and ailments. When factoring in the unavailability of players coupled with inconsistency and a lack of production, it’s not surprising to see run production being an issue for the Dodgers.

Though Betts has started off the season well, it wasn’t exactly a smooth process. A strange stomach illness caused him to lose nearly 20 pounds. He spoke about the issue on Monday, and he appears to be back fully healthy.
Betts was asked about the team’s recent offensive struggles. He had this to say on the matter:
“We all know been struggling, and everybody’s trying to be the guy to get us out (of it). But I think we have to kind of go the opposite way and stop trying so hard and just kind of let it happen. It’s a long season, and the more you try, try, try, it’s like the further it gets away from you. So the more you chase it just keeps running away. And so when you just kind of let things happen and just play the game like you always do, good things tend to happen.”
Fortunately for the Dodgers, the requisite medicine needed to aid the hitting sickness has come in the form of the Colorado Rockies. The NL West foe is charitably a bottom-five team in the big leagues at this time, and there’s a real narrative forming that the Rockies could be the worst team in baseball.
After besting the Rockies in the opening game of the series by a score of 5-3, L.A. came back with another 6-2 win on Tuesday. They’ll hope to keep the momentum in the series finale on Wednesday before visiting the Texas Rangers in what will be a more difficult series.
