After winning the 2025 WNBA Draft lottery, it was clear the Dallas Wings would have a great draft.
There’s a reason the Wings’ general manager, Curt Miller, was literally jumping for joy when they won. Why? Because they had a chance to draft generational talent: Paige Bueckers.
Dallas didn’t overcomplicate their situation, and they made the no-brainer move drafting the UConn legend with the No. 1 pick. This selection made them the biggest winners on draft night and established them as contenders for years to come.
Bueckers accomplished everything conceivable in college, winning the national title this season and averaging 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game.
The Wings weren’t done after drafting Bueckers. They also added Aziaha James of North Carolina State at No. 12, Madison Scott of Ole Miss at No. 14, JJ Quinerly of West Virginia at No. 27 and Aaronette Vonleh of Baylor at No. 31. James averaged 17.9 points per game with 4.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists in her senior year with the Wolfpack. Scott scored 11.8 points per game during her final collegiate season with the Rebels, and Quinerly averaged 20.4 points for the Mountaineers this year. Vonleh scored 14.9 points per game for the Bears.
With these five players in place, Dallas walked away feeling pretty good about their draft. In a press release, Miller discussed just how perfect of a night Dallas had, stating:
We are ecstatic with our draft class and how the night played out,We added leaders and culture creators on and off the floor. We also addressed many areas that we targeted heading into the draft. Those areas included adding additional scoring punch, disruptive defensive players, and overall post depth. This class is filled with warriors, and we look forward to their arrival into Dallas.
The depth and diversity of talent at multiple positions is fantastic, but let’s be clear: It’s all about Bueckers. She was the only Lamborghini in the draft, and the Wings have her in the facility and can give her the keys to the franchise whenever Arike Ogunbowale is ready and willing to give them up.
Overnight, Dallas becomes must-see tv and, combined with their offseason additions, they’ll be a team with a chance to take the biggest leap as we enter the 2025 WNBA season.
