Paige Bueckers will have her hometown of Hopkins, Minnesota renamed to Paige Buckers, Minnesota for one day in an unprecedented move.
The day to honor Bueckers will be May 16, when she makes her WNBA debut for the Dallas Wings against the Minnesota Lynx.
The closest WNBA franchise to Bueckers hometown will be traveling to the Metroplex to face the Wings, who selected the hometown hero first overall in this month’s league draft.
The proposal to rename the town to Paige Bueckers, Minnesota was made earlier this week by the Hopkins City Council.
Hopkins, a suburb of Minneapolis, has a population of under 20,000 with Bueckers arguably being the towns most famous resident.
‘The City of Hopkins would like to honor her accomplishments and wish her the best of luck at the professional level by proclaiming May 16th as Paige Bueckers Day and renaming the city to Paige Bueckers, Minnesota for the day,’ a city release stated.

‘We invite the community to celebrate the kickoff of the WNBA season with Think Hopkins and our local businesses on WNBA watch day, where businesses will have themed specials, air the game and celebrate the season opener – because everybody watches women’s sports.’
The adoption of Paige Bueckers, Minnesota was made official by the town’s mayor, Patrick Hanlon.
Bueckers attended Hopkins High School and was the top female basketball recruit in the nation in the stacked Class of 2020.
Rounding out the top five of that group were Cameron Brink, Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Kamilla Cardoso.
Bueckers will have huge expectations placed on her during a rookie campaign where Dallas hopes she can replicate what Clark achieved with the Indiana Fever last year.
