GREENSBORO, N.C. – Notre Dame women’s tennis junior Akari Matsuno was named to the All-ACC Singles Third Team, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced. It’s the first career all-conference honor for Matsuno.
A product of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, Matsuno went 13-5 in singles over the spring season. She played 13 matches at No. 1 singles, where she was 9-4. The junior was also 5-4 against ACC opponents and 4-3 against ranked opponents. She had a 6-1, 6-0 win over 30th ranked Michaela Laki of NC State on March 2nd and a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 win over Virginia Tech’s Ozlem Uslu, who was also ranked 30th, on March 28th. Matsuno will take a three-match win streak, all against ranked opponents, into next week’s NCAA regionals.
In this week’s ITA singles rankings, Matsuno is slotted in at 49th, her highest ranking of the season so far. Matsuno and the Irish will await their postseason fate on Monday, April 28th at 5:00 p.m. during the NCAA Women’s Tennis selection show, which can be streamed live on NCAA.com.
