Stirling University have gone four points ahead in the race to be runners-up in the Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship, after beating promotion rivals Glasgow Girls and Women 3-1 at home.
Angyl Learmonth had put Glasgow ahead early on, but Stirling skipper Ann Taylor scored a quickfire double on the half-hour mark before Boroughmuir loanee Olivia Forsyth struck a third before the break to give her side an advantage in the race to secure an SWPL play-off spot.
Falkirk climbed to third with a 4-2 win against Inverness Caledonian Thistle. The Bairns were 2-1 down at half-time, but second-half goals from Anna Murray, Shannon Todd and Bryony Ross ensured the win to lift them over Glasgow and Renfrew Ladies, who were beaten 1-0 by league champions East Fife.
In the bottom half of the split, Forfar Farmington moved to within a point of Dryburgh in seventh with a 3-0 win in Dundee, while Stenhousemuir dominated Westdyke 8-1 and Morton beat Hutchison Vale 6-1 in Edinburgh.
Inverurie Locos did Bonnyrigg Rose a huge favour in Barclays Scottish Women’s League One by dramatically holding title challengers Armadale Thistle to a 1-1 draw in West Lothian. The league’s top scorer Khya McGurk had the hosts ahead after 23 minutes, but Inverurie’s Sophie Jamieson equalised before half time.
Bonnyrigg Rose secured a 4-1 victory in Paisley against St Mirren to move three points clear at the top of the table with two games left. Armadale head to Bonnyrigg on the 18 May for the final game in what could be a winner-takes-all title decider.
Meanwhile, a 94th minute winner from Rebecca Read for Dunipace – just moments after Queens had just had a potential injury-time winner at the other end chalked off for offside – summed up a rollercoaster of a game in Denny which saw the hosts win 4-3 against Queen of the South and leapfrog the visitors into fifth in the table. Airdrie beat Edinburgh Caledonia 3-2 to move above them into eighth.
Cambusdoon claimed the SWFL South title with a 6-0 win over Stewarton Annick and Bishopton secured the SWFL West crown with a 3-0 win over St Anthony’s. Elgin City have also clinched the SWFL North title after a 2-0 win over Dyce.
Dunfermline Athletic are on the verge of securing the SWFL Central league after their 2-0 win over Central Girls keeps them six points ahead with two games remaining, while Edinburgh South kept up pressure on Glenrothes Strollers at the top of SWFL East after brushing aside Dryburgh Development 10-0.
