The 2025 WNBA season begins in less than two weeks. Teams across the league have already started their preseason to prepare for the start of the campaign. In the offseason, several franchises, such as the Atlanta Dream, Phoenix Mercury, and Indiana Fever, strengthened their rosters to boost their chances of winning a championship, while some teams kept the same squad. With that, these three teams have the best chance of winning the WNBA championship.
Top 3 WNBA Teams Heading Into The 2025 Season
3. Las Vegas Aces: They Have The Personal
The Las Vegas Aces still have the firepower to compete for another championship. Chelsea Gray is coming back from an injury. Last season, she wasn’t at her best. She put in decent performances but was nothing like the Gray of previous years. They have added Jewell Loyd this season, but it remains to be seen how she will perform as the third or fourth option. Jackie Young is a positive as she looked amazing in the preseason game against the Dallas Wings. She will be a force to be reckoned with, as she is a shot creator, a driver, and has excellent vision. If she performs to the best of her ability, she could be named in the All-WNBA team. A’ja Wilson had an astonishing season last year. She made history by becoming the first player in WNBA history to score 1,000 points.
2. Minnesota Lynx: They Have Finals Experience
The Minnesota Lynx retained the team that won the Commissioner’s Cup last year and got to the playoff final. This is brilliant news as their starting five is one of the best in the league. Suffice it to say they proved it last year with what they achieved. Their starting five also has great chemistry that can make an impact on both defence and offence. Defensively, they rarely miss rotations and can lock up the opposition’s best players using Napheesa Collier. She is also a player who is more than capable of scoring buckets when her team needs them to. Head coach Cheryl Reeve’s side will be determined to get over the line after a heartbreaking defeat to the New York Liberty last year.
1. New York Liberty: They Are WNBA Champions
The New York Liberty will be the favourites to win the title as they are defending champions. Sandy Brondello has nearly the same starting five, with the only notable addition being Natasha Cloud. The only major concern heading into next season is that Betnijah Laney-Hamilton will be out for the year after surgery on a knee injury. Hamilton’s absence is a blow as she played a crucial role in last year’s championship win. They also let Kayla Thornton go to the Golden State Valkyries in the expansion draft. The positive to this is that it will open the door for the likes of Leonie Fiebich and Nyara Sabally to start long-term. Sabally proved to be very impactful off the bench in the playoff finals against the Lynx.Â
