Former Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter grabbed the spotlight in 2024 when she forcefully knocked Indiana Fever then-rookie Caitlin Clark to the floor, eliciting an enthusiastic reaction from Angel Reese on the sidelines.

Carter, who is now a free agent, loomed over Clark and then casually strolled up the court. Post-game, she made her stance clear. “I ain’t answering no Caitlin Clark questions,” she declared. Initially deemed a common foul, her action was later escalated to a flagrant 1 the following day.

In a recent chat with YouTuber N3ON, Carter seemed to tone down her earlier aggression. “It’s one of those things that just happens in basketball,” she explained. “It was just like a little tap, like ‘I’m here.’ Not to like harm [her] or anything.

“It’s one of those things. I’m a great player, she’s a great player. Everybody is gonna have their views on it, and my personal view is that I don’t have anything against her.”

At 26, Carter, who was selected fourth overall in the 2020 WNBA Draft by the Atlanta Dream from Texas A&M, notched a career-best average of 17.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game last season with the Sky.

“So in basketball a little bit, there are things called talking smack, that’s a part of basketball,” Carter remarked regarding the buildup to the incident. “I think a play before, maybe I was elbowed, okay, that happens.

“I think the next play down, maybe something was said, and then maybe there was a little clip of somebody yelling in my face. And then we go down the court, then I hit a little bucket.”

The Fever celebrated a nail-biting victory at 71-70, bagging just their second win in ten games. Amid Clark’s challenging start to her WNBA career, she racked up 11 points on 4/11 shooting.

When queried about whether Carter owed an apology, the Fever’s standout player coolly stated, “No….Basketball’s competitive. I get it. Sometimes your emotions get the best of you — it happened to me multiple times throughout the course of my career.

“People are competitive. [Carter is] having a tremendous season. She’s played great basketball. In my eyes, probably in first place for Sixth Player of the Year. She’s been great off the bench for them. She had 25 [points] here last night and really helped them win the game.”
