As we creep closer to Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’s June 26 launch, more information has been released about the upcoming game. Many critics recently had the chance to play 30 hours of the upcoming sequel from Kojima Productions, and some new details about the gameplay have been released. One of the more interesting aspects is that players can choose whether to avoid or engage with the Death Stranding 2’s enemies, and the game will adapt to your playstyle.

Speaking to Sachie Kobari for the PlayStation Blog Japan, director Hideo Kojima explained the reasoning behind the new system being introduced in Death Stranding’s sequel.

“Players familiarized themselves with the ‘delivery game’ genre with the first game, and the sequel builds on that and provides players with more choice and freedom,” Kojima says.“Particularly around combat; you can go in guns blazing, or you can choose not to use weapons at all. We also made cars and motorcycles more accessible.”

This comment from Kojima gave prospective players some insight into how the game will adapt to your playstyle, but Ed Nightingale has expanded on exactly how this works in his preview for Eurogamer. He explains how Death Stranding 2 has a skill tree that unlocks new buffs after every mission based on how you play.

“More time in stealth will allow for buffs like better noise cancellation and enemy alerts, while more time in combat will unlock improved bullets and a better scanner range,” Nightingale writes. This means that the game will adapt to whether you prefer stealth or combat, giving you more tools for playing in your preferred style.

Kojima is a designer known for turning your expectations against you, so we’re sure this gameplay twist will not be the last player’s experience while trying out Death Stranding 2. While the games media have already played 30 hours of the game, there is still a lot left for future players to discover.
