On Friday, Paige Bueckers, the No. 1 pick in last month’s WNBA draft, made her WNBA regular-season debut in a game between the Dallas Wings and Minnesota Lynx.
In the first half, she scored six points for the Wings on 3-of-6 shooting from the field and grabbed four rebounds as her team tied the Lynx at 46 at halftime.

In attendance at College Park Center in Texas for this game is KK Arnold, who was a teammate of Bueckers when the two played at UConn this past season. Arnold was accompanied by Bueckers’ younger brother, and both were sitting courtside for this contest.
Bueckers and Arnold helped lead the UConn Huskies to the women’s NCAA championship several weeks ago. In the title game, they defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks by a final score of 82-59.
Bueckers finished the season averaging 19.9 points, 4.6 assists and 4.4 rebounds a game while shooting 53.4% from the field and 41.9% from 3-point range. She won the Wade Trophy, which is given to the top upperclass women’s basketball player in the nation, as well as her third Big East Player of the Year award.

She’s known as a fantastic three-level scorer who can also facilitate and hit open teammates, and she has also been lauded for her defense.

She is now tasked with resuscitating a Dallas franchise that has struggled for years. Dallas went 9-31 last season and has finished with a winning record just once since it moved from Tulsa for the 2016 season.
