The New York Liberty kicked off their campaign on Saturday night with a big matchup against reigning WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces.
Before the game tipped off, the Liberty held their championship ring and banner ceremony in front of a capacity crowd at Barclays Center. Sabrina Ionescu and Co. received their championship rings following their first-ever franchise title win in 2024.

Ionescu was all smiles as she received her first career championship ring, and the three-time All-Star just had to flex the flashy piece of jewelry in front of the camera.
Ionescu’s behavior during the ceremony caught the attention of the WNBA, and the league could not help but react.
“Big flex 💍Sabrina Ionescu showing off her first-ever WNBA championship ring!” the WNBA posted on X.
Unfortunately for Ionescu, the 5-foot-11 guard had a forgettable performance during her big night. She ended up shooting just 3-of-12 from the field and 0-of-5 from beyond the arc for eight points, seven rebounds and four assists in 31 minutes of action.

The Liberty were able to pick up the slack for their star guard, though, with Breanna Stewart (25 points, eight rebounds) and Jonquel Jones (17 points, 10 rebounds, six assists) leading the charge for New York, as they took down the Aces, 92-78.

Her teammates spared Ionescu from her blushes in this one, but she will need to be much better in her next game. This comes in the form of a road matchup against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky, who got themselves blown out by Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Saturday, on Thursday.
