The WNBA season is off to a fast and exciting start, with daily highlights and headlines grabbing fans’ attention. One team that continues to take the spotlight is the Indiana Fever, thanks to the hype around their rising star and the leadership of veteran players.

On Tuesday night, the Fever hosted the Atlanta Dream in the first game of a back-to-back series between the two Eastern Conference teams. While much of the attention typically goes to second-year phenom Caitlin Clark, it was a seasoned pro who made history.

DeWanna Bonner, the 37-year-old forward for Indiana, hit a major milestone. With her first rebound of the game, Bonner moved into eighth place on the WNBA’s all-time rebounding list. That moment added yet another impressive chapter to her already remarkable career.

According to the league’s official social media post, the rebound pushed her past Tina Thompson with 3,071 career boards. Bonner now sits just 78 rebounds shy of Candice Dupree, who holds the seventh spot on the list.

This season marks Bonner’s first with the Fever, and she’s already cementing her name further in all-time lists. During the Indiana’s season-opener against the Chicago Sky, she scored 7 points, moving her to the third spot in the WNBA’s all-time scoring list, also surpassing Thompson.

Prior to the Fever, Bonner spent the previous five seasons (2020–2024) with the Connecticut Sun. Last year, she played all 40 regular-season games for the Sun, starting 39 of them. She averaged 15 points per game, extending her streak to 15 consecutive seasons scoring in double figures. Bonner also added six rebounds per game.

Bonner was originally drafted fifth overall in the 2009 WNBA Draft by Phoenix. During her career, Bonner has won two WNBA championships and earned six All-Star selections. She was named to the All-WNBA First Team in 2015 and the Second Team in 2020.

Indiana will visit Atlanta again on Thursday, then return home Saturday to host the New York Liberty. The Fever are aiming for a return to the playoffs after finishing as the sixth seed last season. They were eliminated in the first round by the Connecticut Sun in a two-game sweep..
