A near double-double from Angel Reese was not enough to lead the Chicago Sky to a victory over the Atlanta Dream.
Rhyne Howard’s 36 points provided a major boost as the Dream took down the Sky 88-70. She also hit a career-high nine three-pointers, tying the single-game WNBA record in the process.
Howard also added eight rebounds and four assists in the effort. Allisha Gray had 15 points, Brionna Jones had 13 and Jordin Canada had 12. Center Brittany Griner contributed seven points, four rebounds and three blocks and moved to second in WNBA history in blocks.
The Dream trailed 39-38 at halftime but had an explosive 30-16 advantage in the fourth quarter that improved their record to 7-3.
Reese had 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists in the losing effort. Kamilla Cardoso led the team with 15 points as the Sky fell to 2-7 on the season.
This was each team’s second Commissioner’s Cup game, with the Sky falling to 0-2 and Atlanta improving to 1-1 for the regular season tournament.
Reese and the Sky will look to get back on track on Sunday when they face the Connecticut Sun at noon ET.
