Atlanta Dream Make Rhyne Howard Announcement on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

It was a dominant weekend for the Atlanta Dream. After blowing out the Chicago Sky 88-70 on Friday, they stayed hot Sunday afternoon with a road win over the Washington Mystics.

Atlanta led 16-13 after the first quarter and 45-34 at halftime, eventually cruising to an 89-56 victory. With the win, the Dream improved to 8-3 overall, second in the Eastern Conference standings. Atlanta has now won three straight games.

On Sunday, history was made. Rhyne Howard knocked down four 3-pointers, becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 300 career threes. At just 25 years old, she reached the milestone in only 114 games.

The Dream celebrated her achievement on social media:

“WNBA HISTORY MADE @howard_rhyne has become the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 300 career three-pointers!”

The previous record was held by Sabrina Ionescu of the New York Liberty, who hit the mark in 117 games. Before her, Diana Taurasi did it in 124 games. Howard should enjoy the record while she has it. After nailing seven 3-pointers on Saturday, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has 140 career treys in just 45 games.

A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Howard was selected first overall by the Dream in the 2022 WNBA draft. She starred for the Kentucky Wildcats, where she was a four-time All-SEC First Team selection, three-time All-American and the WBCA Freshman of the Year in 2019.

In Lexington, she was a four-time All-SEC First Team player. She was named to the All-American list three times.

Since joining the WNBA, Howard won Rookie of the Year in 2022 and has been named an All-Star twice.

In Sunday’s win, she was one of four Atlanta players to score in double figures, finishing with 14 points. Allisha Gray led the way with 32. On Friday, Howard scored a season-high 36 points, going 9-for-19 from beyond the arc.
