Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter is buying a majority stake of the Los Angeles Lakers from the Buss family, ESPN’s Shams Charania reports.

Jerry Buss bought the Lakers in 1979 for $67.5 million. When he passed away, he passed ownership onto his children. Now, Jeanie Buss is selling majority interest of the team, but will maintain her standing as Governor after the sale.
As for Walter, he’s been a minority stakeholder in the Lakers since 2021, but has interests in multiple professional sports organizations, including the Dodgers, Los Angeles Sparks, the Billie Jean Cup, Cadillac Formula 1 team and the Professional Women’s Hockey League.
