Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream (8-4) have been one of the most improved teams to start the 2025 WNBA season, sitting with the fourth-best record in the league.

However, after missing out on a Commissioner’s Cup Championship berth and seeing their three-game winning streak snapped, the Dream received more troubling news on the injury report.

Ahead of Friday night’s game against the Washington Mystics, Griner, the former Baylor Bears center, had initially been ruled questionable due to an illness.

But, as of Friday afternoon, that is no longer the case.

“Brittney Griner (illness) available to play Friday,” Underdog WNBA wrote on X.

Griner spent her first 11 seasons with the Phoenix Mercury, but, upon Diana Taurasi’s retirement, she signed with Atlanta over the offseason. Despite the Dream’s success, Griner has seen her statistics drop significantly.

In 2024 with the Mercury, Griner averaged 17.8 points on 57.9% shooting, 6.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. This year, with Dream stars such as Alicia Gray and Rhyne Howard playing well, Griner has had to a backseat.

In 2025, she is averaging 10.6 points on 49.4% shooting, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game, but her 6-foot-9 frame will always cause havoc for teams on the defensive end.

Griner has played in 10 of the Dream’s first 12 games of the year. She was forced to miss two straight games earlier in the season with a left knee injury.

The Mystics’ injury report is also relatively clean, with only Georgia Amoore out due to an ACL injury.

Following the Mystics game, Griner and the Dream will face Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. ET.
