Tommaso started in 1985 as the house brand for Ten Speed Drive Imports (TSDI) out of Melbourne Beach, Florida. The name can from the owner, Tom Eason, Tommaso is Italian for Thomas. Italian frames were imported and then painted and built in the USA.
I haven’t been able to confirm, but I believe TSDI was in business since the 70s. They imported many great Italian brands including Guerciotti, Ciocc, Cinelli, and Rossin. I’ve also seen evidence they may have sold Woodrup and Masi at one time or another. Many of their frames were bought just primed and then painted in the USA with DuPont Imron paint. At some point they also had a TSDI West shop out of CA. I believe the company closed sometime in the 90s.
The Tommaso frames may have come from multiple sources, but Billato seems to come up the most. They appear to be very high quality bikes, check out this one:
