Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are back in action on Friday in another home matchup against the Atlanta Dream. The Fever will be looking to bounce back following their disappointing 80-61 blowout loss to the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday.

After the Dream on Friday, Indiana will get to host the Dallas Wings on Sunday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in what will be the first WNBA clash between Clark and No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers.

There’s already a strong buzz ahead of the Fever-Wings game, and the league has added to the hype even more with their latest “warning” about Clark.

“Warning: If you see smoke, do not be alarmed. That’s just Caitlin Clark heating up. Tune in to Fever vs. Wings on July 13 at 1pm/ET on ABC,” the league posted on Instagram.

The WNBA’s post, however, did not come at the best time. There’s no denying that, as the league pointed out in its statement, Clark is one of the most dangerous threats from distance in the WNBA today. The problem, though, is that the reigning Rookie of the Year has been shooting the ball at a historically poor rate of late.

Over Clark’s last four games, which date back to June 19 before she sat out five straight contests due to a groin injury, the 23-year-old has shot just 3-of-28 or 10.7% from beyond the arc. That represents the worst shooting percentage in league history over a four-game stretch with a minimum of 25 attempts.

This is exactly why the WNBA is now facing pushback from the fans on social media over their mistimed “warning.”

“Absolute glaze after dropping a stinker against gsv,” a comment on Instagram read, referencing Clark going 4-of-12 overall and 2-of-5 from distance against Golden State.

“Baby we haven’t seen that fire in her in over a month,” another said.

“fr😭😭 I’m sick and tired atp,” agreed a user.

“heating up where???? y’all are so biased that you’re posting her even when she gets blown out by Golden State?? she’s not even the best guard on her own team 😭😭” declared a viewer.

“And the glaze of the century goes to WNBA!!! 🤣🤣” another wrote.

“Nice job posting this after another bad game,” posted a fan.

The silver lining for Clark here is that the law of statistics is working in her favor. During the season, the former Iowa star shot 30.1% from three-point territory. While this isn’t exactly a highly efficient clip, it’s also indicative that she should get out of her shooting slump sooner rather than later.
