Playing alongside Ruoning Yin and Haeran Ryu, Hull looked unsteady early, first collapsing on the tee at the 4th hole. After a 15-minute medical break and seeming to recover, she collapsed again immediately after her tee shot. Medics treated her on the spot with an IV drip before she was taken off in a medical cart. Thankfully, no hospital visit was needed.
At the time, Hull was one-under through 12 holes but it soon emerged she had been battling a virus causing faintness and vision issues. Despite the ordeal, Hull remained coherent and hopeful, aiming to return for the Scottish Open and AIG Women’s Open.
Currently ranked 19th in the world, Hull has delivered solid major performances this season—tying for 12th at both the U.S. Women’s Open and Women’s PGA Championship—but she is still chasing that elusive first major win.
The first-round leaderboard is headed by a five-way tie at six-under par, including Leona Maguire, Andrea Lee, Jennifer Kupcho, Gabriela Ruffels, and Grace Kim.
