Part-time Cup Series driver Katherine Legge had a sly retort for Spire Motorsports driver Carson Hocevar, at Sonoma on Sunday. A strange run-in with Hocevar prompted a funny remark from Legge, which immediately went viral.
The British driver had a rough start to her weekend. Due to a brake issue with her No. 78 Chevrolet, she missed the qualifying session and had to start the race from 33rd place. However, the confidence boost from her performance in Chicago helped Legge stay unnerved.
A Rough Race for Katherine Legge and a Sharp Remark
For most of the race, 45-year-old Legge drove really well. Even though she ended up finishing 31st by the end of the race, she managed to keep her car clean and once again beat Hocevar in the standings.
The Spire Motorsports driver has already had multiple feuds this season with veterans like Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Josh Berry. But this time, it wasn’t a wreck or a tit-for-tat scenario. During the cooldown lap when drivers were slowly returning to the garage, Hocevar suddenly drove past Legge at high speed.
Although it was not aggressive, it was not necessary at all. Legge, clearly confused, asked on the radio, “What is he doing?” followed by a playful jab at Hocevar, saying, “I think even I could take him.”
🤣I’d pay good money to see that fight! @katherinelegge says she could probably take him [@CarsonHocevar]. #NASCAR | #ToyotaSaveMart350🏁 pic.twitter.com/a8sTlbprSe

Her crew chief couldn’t help but laugh, and neither could fans once it was posted on social media. As funny as her comment was, Legge has been proving herself on track too. She’s been outrunning Hocevar in every road course race they’ve both raced in this season.
Legge Beating Carson Hocevar on Road Courses
In Mexico City and Chicago, she finished ahead of him. And now, Legge has crossed the line, beating Hocevar in Sonoma for the third time in a row.
Meanwhile, Hocevar’s weekend was already quite devastating. Josh Berry appeared to have spun him in Turn 11 with three laps to go in the race. NASCAR didn’t hand out a penalty to Berry and called it a “racing deal.”

But it was yet another addition to Hocevar’s series of feuds this season. The 22-year-old’s run-ins with veterans like Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Berry have made him a talking point in the Cup Series.
Legge kept it clean and was much more confident than before. Fans now wait to see if she can continue her record of defeating Hocevar in the next race, too.
