Other Conditions: Position is a temporary casual hire position and offers no benefits 89 day hire, hours not to exceed 19.75 hours per week. Continuous recruitment until programmatic needs are met.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists with all aspects of NCAA Division I men’s tennis program, including student recruitment and development, compliance with NCAA, Conference and University of Hawai‘i rules and regulations, student-athlete academic achievement, and other duties assigned by the Head Coach.
Assists and participates in practices and intercollegiate competitions. Teach necessary skills from the basic fundamentals to the techniques and strategies.
Promotes and fosters a positive team environment, appropriate behavior, and sportsmanship by team members. Responsible for the conduct of team members both on and off the court.
Promotes and maintains an environment where the physical, mental, social and academic well-being of all student-athletes are a priority.
Assists with evaluating, recruiting and selecting qualified prospects that have the ability to compete in the classroom and athletically. Actively seek out and encourage a diverse group of prospects and assist them through the application process. Work collaboratively with the Compliance, Student-Athlete Services, and Academics staff to qualify and process prospects in a timely and efficient manner. Make recurring contacts by telephone, written correspondence, off-campus visits and evaluations, and coordination of campus visits as assigned by the Head Coach.
Assists with overseeing the academic progress and success of student-athletes including promoting and maintaining an environment that encourages academic achievement as measured by academic eligibility, retention, and graduation.
Actively participates in promotional and public relation activities for the men’s tennis program.
Responsible for performing the duties of a Campus Security Authority as defined by University policy and federal law with regards to the Clery Act.
Maintains an effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Maintains confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess, in accordance with federal and state laws and University of Hawaii policies.
Knows, recognizes, and complies with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawaii and its employees, and the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and of the affiliated conference as now constituted or as may be amended in the future. Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees or students, have occurred or will occur.
Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university;
Some experience coaching tennis at the college or university level;
Knowledge of men’s tennis as competed at the collegiate level or/and at the professional level.
Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays and travel
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
Computer, cell phone, and social media technology competency.
Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner. Required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
First Aid, CPR and AED certification at the time of employment
or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Desirable Qualifications:
Division I men’s tennis coaching experience or professional playing experience.
Ability to understand and work effectively in Hawai‘i’s multi-cultural society.
