Five-Star 2027 Recruit Reveals Generous Oregon Offer That Puts Dan Lanning in Pole Position, and It Isn’t About Money

Xavier Sabb, a newly minted five-star from Glassboro High School in New Jersey, has climbed to No. 14 in the national 2027 rankings. He has showcased his skills as a defensive back, safety, cornerback, running back, and even quarterback.

Sabb recently identified Oregon as a front-runner in his recruitment, citing the school’s culture under head coach Dan Lanning. What sets Oregon apart, Sabb noted, is not financial incentives. In June, Sabb visited Eugene with his older brother, Amari Sabb, a 3-star 2026 athlete.

Xavier Sabb’s Cross-Country Visit to Oregon Highlights Ducks’ Recruiting Edge

Sabb, a five-star standout in the 2027 class, continues to attract national attention as one of the most versatile athletes in the country. The Glassboro (New Jersey) product, who holds the No. 14 overall ranking, recently visited Oregon in June. His trip to Eugene only strengthened the Ducks’ position in a recruitment that is already drawing interest from powerhouse programs.

Sabb, listed at 6″1′ and 180 pounds, is being targeted by Oregon and others as a two-way player. Schools are recruiting him as both a safety and a wide receiver. According to the dynamic athlete, Oregon is open to him playing either or both positions.

“They said if I could play both, I can do that when I get down there,” Sabb told On3. “But if there’s one I’m leaning to, I can stay there. And if I have to be versatile I can do both.”

While he has proven himself on both sides of the ball, one position appears to be gaining favor.

“As of right now I’m leaning toward receiver,” Sabb said. “But if the school wants me to play both, I’ll play both.”

The talented junior also carries a strong football lineage. His older brother Keon Sabb won the 2023 National title at Michigan before transferring to Alabama, where he has continued to thrive.

Both Alabama and Michigan remain active in recruiting the younger Sabb, adding another layer of intrigue to what is expected to be a lengthy decision-making process.

“I already spoke on the relationship part, so that, and if everybody has the same goal as in developing me as a person and being a better player,” Sabb said. “And then what I could do after college because football is not guaranteed. I want to major in technology. So if they have a good technology program.”

Oregon remains in frequent contact, speaking with Sabb nearly every other day. For the Glassboro star, the appeal lies in the program’s culture.

“Just relationships and the coaches, that’s really the big, main focus always,” he said. “If the coaches’ relationships and their intentions are genuine–that could be a spot for me.”

Sabb has yet to take another visit since Eugene, but has several schools on his radar. USC, Illinois, and Texas are among the programs he still wants to explore. Future visits will likely be coordinated with Amari, with Rutgers, Nebraska, and Ohio State also in the mix.
