155-pound
Ultimate Fighting Championship gunslingers are destined for
mayhem.
Rumor spread throughout the week about the lightweight collision
between Benoit St.
Denis (14-3, 1 NC) and Mauricio
Ruffy (12-1), thanks in part to some hints dropped on social media by the
latter. On Thursday, St. Denis’ team of Bulgarian Top Team
broke the news that the potential all-action banger has been booked
for Sept. 6. Presumably in the main card of
UFC Paris, the two lightweights will cross swords with a place
in the rankings on the line.
Familiar Territory for One Man
This will be the fourth appearance for “BSD” on French soil as a
professional, with all four taking place in the UFC due to the past
ban on MMA in his home country. While he won the first two by
second-round knockout, he faced Renato
“Money” Moicano last year and needed the doctor to rescue him
from further harm after 10 rough minutes. The Frenchman has since
rebounded by throttling Kyle
Prepolec with an arm-triangle choke in Canada this past May,
thus keeping his finish rate as a pro at 100%.
Of the two, it is Ruffy who has gone the distance in victory. The
Brazilian first did so in his sophomore UFC appearance, needing all
three rounds to get past James
Llontop. The Fighting Nerds staple went on to wreck Bobby Green
with a spinning wheel kick in March to advance his win streak to
seven. Eleven of his 12 pro victories ended via strikes.
UFC Paris will go down on Sept. 6 inside of the Accor Arena in
France’s capital city. The fight card also known as UFC Fight Night
258 will be headlined by a middleweight contest pitting Nassourdine
Imavov against Caio
Borralho. Additional tilts likely serving on the main card
include Marcin
Tybura vs. Ante Delija
at heavyweight, as well as a light heavyweight scrap as Modestas
Bukauskas faces Paul
Craig.
