Just over a year before her world fell apart, Ana Ivanovic spoke with warmth and pride about the man she believed was her rock: her husband and former football star Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Love before the betrayal: Ana’s words about Bastian in September 2023
In an emotional interview published in September 2023, Ana opened up from the comfort of her parents’ living room in Belgrade, radiating calm and contentment as she spoke about her loving and stable marriage. But not long afterwards, that picture-perfect family would be shattered by a very public betrayal.
By April 2025, whispers of a split were gaining traction, and in June, the internet exploded with explicit photos of Schweinsteiger on a beach in Mallorca, kissing and cuddling a mystery blonde who was soon identified as Silva Kapitanova, a fellow school parent whose children attended the same school as Ana and Bastian’s boys in Mallorca.
What makes the scandal even more painful is that Ana, unaware of the storm that lay ahead, had opened her heart about how deeply she valued her husband’s support and the sense of security he gave her.
Ana recalls instantly knowing Bastian was the one: “The eyes are the mirror of the soul.”
During the conversation with a respected Serbian reporter, Ivanovic shared how she instantly knew Schweinsteiger was the one, describing the feeling as unmistakable and rooted in a deep, soulful connection.
Interviewer: You got married, you have beautiful children… When you met your husband, think back… Did you immediately see what would happen later? What did you feel? Tell us about it.
Ana: Every woman feels it in the moment. I felt it right away. You can just feel it in a look. Like they say, “The eyes are the mirror of the soul.” I believe the eyes never lie. And when you look into someone’s eyes and feel something—that’s it. While you’re still just friends, getting to know each other, there’s that feeling, that sense of knowing each other from before… I think women feel all of that.
Ana on the deep security she found in Bastian: “He is my voice of reason.”
In the interview, Ivanovic opened up about the vital sense of security her husband provided, describing it as a rare luxury and an anchor through life’s ups and downs. She emphasized how much having someone to rely on meant to her, especially given her emotional nature, with Bastian serving as her steady voice of reason.
Interviewer: Did you feel a certain sense of security that you needed?
Ana: Definitely. Even today, he gives me that sense of security every single day.
Interviewer: That’s a big luxury.
Ana: I know.
Interviewer: It’s very important, isn’t it? To have someone you can rely on.
Ana: Very important. Yes.
Interviewer: In good times and in bad.
Ana: Of course.
Interviewer: That feeling, when a woman finds that feeling, then the whole world is hers.
Ana: Of course. And he is also my voice of reason. Since I’m very emotional, he’s the one who is always there. Literally, my voice of reason.
Serbian passion and German precision shaped Ana and Bastian’s unique bond
Ana reflected warmly on the blend of their two cultures, highlighting how Serbian fire and German structure complemented each other perfectly. She shared how Bastian embraced life in Belgrade and her family, while their different approaches to organization and planning created a balanced and harmonious partnership.
“We got along so well because, like you said, our mentality is full of fire, and he likes that. He enjoys coming here, being part of our family, being in Belgrade, going out with friends. On the other hand, their mentality is a bit different… more organized, calmer, more analytical. And I have a bit of that in me too. I like things to be planned and organized. My dad often jokes that we plan two years in advance and he’s not far from the truth.”
Bastian has now found that fire in a woman from Serbia’s neighboring country, Bulgaria. Paparazzi photos of Schweinsteiger and Silva Kapitanova showed the pair laying next to each other on a beach in Mallorca and later passionately embracing at a luxury resort in Greece. The divorce from Ivanovic has been finalized and Bastian now lives with his new girlfriend in a luxury sea-view villa that he rents for 50K euros per month.
