Fred Vasseur has explained why the problems faced by Ferrari in the 2025 Formula 1 season are not connected to Loic Serra.
With the struggles that Scuderia Ferrari has encountered in the opening phase of 2025, many had criticized Fred Vasseur’s decision to rely so heavily on Loic Serra. However, the current technical director of the Maranello team only arrived when the SF-25 project was already at an advanced stage. For this reason, as the Team Principal underlined, responsibility should be looked for elsewhere – including within the media.
Fred Vasseur addresses the media againAfter his harsh words towards journalists during the Canadian Grand Prix weekend, the French manager returned to the subject in a long interview given to AMuS. Among the various topics, he also spoke about his contract renewal and the rumors that had slowed down negotiations.
“The rumors created chaos. I was not the one who started them, it was the media. Neither I nor Ferrari spoke. But today you cannot avoid this kind of interference. I do not want to put all journalists on the same level. But with the internet, journalism has become much more aggressive. There is pressure to generate clicks. When these rumors first appeared in Canada, I was really angry. Because they went too far.”
Fred Vasseur then moved on to defend his technical director. “My technical director, Loic Serra, was accused of not having done a good job. Yet the 2025 car was practically finished when Loic started working for us. The story with Charles Leclerc was similar. Some people regularly wrote that Charles would go to Mercedes. Nobody cared that he repeatedly confirmed he had a long-term contract with Ferrari. This has an impact on the team. In Italy, people react in a more emotional way. Without this background chaos, my talks with Ferrari would have been much faster.”
“These kinds of things can make everyone in the team lose focus. Look at Red Bull and what happened there in recent weeks. There were only rumors about Verstappen. And that is one of McLaren’s strengths. They managed to stay away from all of these stories and upheavals. That is why I announced the signing of Lewis before the start of the season last year. If I had done it between Imola and Monte Carlo, many people would have panicked. In this way, Carlos was aware of the situation from the very beginning and was able to digest it before everything started. His attention was focused on his work.” – the Ferrari team boss concluded.
