Just days before the 2025 US Open begins, Coco Gauff has decided to part ways with coach Matt Daly, a source told ESPN. The two-time Grand Slam champion and current world No. 3 will continue her work with longtime mentor Jean-Christophe “J.C.” Faurel, while adding biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan to her team. Gauff was seen practicing in New York on Wednesday with both Faurel and MacMillan.

MacMillan is known for his work with world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, assisting her with serve mechanics after she struggled with the yips in 2022, and helping refine her forehand. Gauff has faced serving difficulties this summer, including 42 double faults over just three matches at the National Bank Open in Montreal earlier this month.

Daly, who specializes in grip techniques, joined Gauff last year after she ended her collaboration with Brad Gilbert following a disappointing US Open performance. Working alongside Faurel, Daly spent weeks preparing Gauff for the China Open, focusing on serve adjustments and tactical details. That preparation paid off, as Gauff captured the China Open title and finished the season as WTA Finals champion.

When asked for comment, Daly told tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg that the split had occurred “recently” and that Gauff would announce it officially. “Only have good things to say about Coco, enjoyed working with her,” he added.

This year, under the guidance of Daly and Faurel, Gauff secured the French Open trophy and reached the finals at the Madrid and Italian Opens, both WTA 1000 events. However, ongoing serving issues have hindered her consistency; she has won just four singles matches in four events since Paris.

The 2023 US Open champion has yet to make an official announcement about the split on her social media.
