Carl Froch Blasts Wilder And Joshua: “They Should Both Retire”

Carl Froch has never been one to sugarcoat. On his own Froch On Fighting YouTube channel, “The Cobra” went straight for the jugular, saying he has zero interest in seeing either Deontay Wilder or Anthony Joshua continue. For Froch, both men are running on fumes and wrecking whatever’s left of their legacies.

“I’m not interested in seeing Wilder fighting again from what I’ve seen. His punching power seems to be gone, his legs seem to be gone as well, when he gets clipped he struggles. I just don’t see why these fighters need to carry on and destroy their legacy and ruin it. That’s AJ and Wilder. I don’t think these fighters should be fighting anymore,” Froch said.

Why Froch Thinks the Heavyweights Are Finished

He’s not wrong about the decline. Joshua has been rattled and knocked out by Daniel Dubois, while Wilder’s aura of fear has evaporated since Fury ripped him apart. Wilder’s four losses in recent years speak for themselves. Even his stoppage win over Tyrrell Herndon in June felt hollow—a stay-busy fight against an opponent who had no business in there.

Joshua vs Wilder was once the heavyweight fight the world wanted, but now it feels like an echo of a decade-old fantasy. The timing has passed, and the shine’s gone.

Does Boxing Really Need Joshua vs Wilder in 2025?

The problem is the money men still see a payday. Talk of Joshua vs Wilder refuses to die, even though both men look like shadows of who they were in their primes. Froch’s stance is brutal but honest: he doesn’t want to see faded heavyweights stumbling around for one last cash-out.

My take? He’s right. Fans should stop begging for Joshua vs Wilder like it’s still 2018. Boxing has moved on. Heavyweight is now Dubois, Usyk, Itauma, and whoever else comes through. Joshua and Wilder hanging on doesn’t inspire, it depresses. Time to step aside before they get carried out of the ring.

Amy Kaplan has been a boxing fan since she was 10 years old, which means she’s spent most of her life explaining to people that yes, she really does prefer fight nights over dinner parties. Now writing for Boxing News 24, she covers everything from world title fights to prospects swinging for a payday.  She mixes sharp analysis with sarcasm, calling out boxing politics and cutting through the press-release spin to give fans the stories that actually matter.
