Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a joint production between The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, where we highlight the five most essential IU basketball stories of the past week, plus take a look at how the other IU sports programs are doing.
IU’s first signature non-conference game for the 2025-26 season – Marquette – now has a tip time and TV designation.
Also in this week’s edition of 6-Banner Sunday: Bracketology, ITH and UMHoops began their annual Big Ten player rankings and football’s season-opening victory. We will conclude with weekly shows and a look at other Hoosier sports, which was highlighted by volleyball emerging victorious in their first weekend of competition.

Banner #1 – Tip time and TV designation set for IU-Marquette in Chicago
While the Puerto Rico exhibition games are long over, there is still a whole fall of non-conference play coming up later in the semester. The first signature matchup of these contests takes place on Sunday, Nov. 9, against Marquette.
While this showdown at the United Center in Chicago already had a date and place, it now has a time. This will be at 1 p.m. ET and televised by ESPN.
Banner #2 – ESPN releases new Bracketology for 2026 NCAA tournament
An entirely new roster will be one difference Hoosiers fans notice for this upcoming 2025-2026 season. As a result, how good the squad might be remains a significant unknown.
Because of this, IU is listed as a bubble team in Joe Lunardi’s latest Bracketology. They are amongst the “first four out” per his projection.
Banner #3 – ITH and UMHoops rank the top 40 Big Ten players for the 2025-26 season
With the season drawing closer, Inside the Hall and UMHoops began a series previewing the upcoming season. This one looks at the top 40 players in the Big Ten. So far, numbers 21-40 have been revealed, with Lamar Wilkerson being the only Hoosier player to appear at number 29.
Banner #4 – IU football beats Old Dominion to open 2025 season
While 6-Banner is a basketball-focused column, the success of IU football in 2024 has led to unprecedented excitement amongst the fan base and increased media coverage for the program. As a result, 6-Banner, Assembly Call, The Back Home Network and Inside the Hall are providing more coverage of the Hoosier squad on the gridiron now.
Expectations are high that Indiana can come close to repeating last year’s success. This weekend was the season opener against Old Dominion, and despite some sloppiness and rust at times, the Hoosiers cruised to a relatively easy 27-14 win.
Issues with short yardage and offensive line play near the goal line kept the result from being a complete blowout. However, a strong defensive effort outside of two plays ensured IU was never in any real danger of losing.
Pre-conference play continues next Saturday. The Cream and Crimson will once again be the heavy favorites as they face Kennesaw State at 12 p.m. ET on FS1.
Banner #5 – Podcast on the Brink and Back Home Network shows
Inside the Hall’s Podcast on the Brink returned this week. On it, Basket Under Review’s Jordan Majewski joined the program to discuss IU’s upcoming season.
The Back Home Network was on air many times this week as new shows continue to be added. Assembly Call, Big Red Carpet, CrimsonCASH, Crimson Cast, Doing The Work, Dribble Drive, Football Weather, Right Up Meridian, and Xs and Joes all had episodes over the last few days.
Banner #6 – Hoosier Roundup
• Volleyball started its season with a bang, picking up wins against Miami and VCU.
• Men’s Soccer beat San Francisco and Green Bay with comeback victories to improve to 2-0-1, thanks to the strong play of Jacopo Fedrizzi.
• Women’s soccer fell at St. Louis.
• Field Hockey lost its opener to Boston College.
• Cross country began its season with the Sam Bell Invitational.
• Former IU baseball pitcher McCade Brown has made it to the major leagues.
• Swimming and diving announced its schedule for the upcoming season.
• Finally, IU athletics is holding a blood drive in a competition against all other Big Ten schools.
