JACKSON, Tenn. – McKendree University women’s soccer (0-0-3) finished out non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon with a third-straight draw, using a two-goal second half to play to a deadlock against Union. The Bearcats knotted the game in the opening minutes of the second half behind a career-first score by freshman midfielder Addy Wilson while junior forward Aubrey Andrews fired the second goal in the following minutes. McKendree heads into Great Lakes Valley Conference play this upcoming weekend with an unbeaten streak to begin the year, taking on Rockhurst at Leemon Field on September 14 at 12:00PM.
The first half saw Union pace the contest with a score in the ninth minute of action, leading 1-0 throughout the duration of the period. The Bearcats pushed hard while in the deficit, firing six shots to the Bulldogs’ five in the first half, including four on-frame for the McKendree attack. McKendree trailed 1-0 going into the intermission.
In the second half, McKendree battled back to take the lead in the first third of the period, beginning with a career-first goal to knot the game up at 1-1. Freshman midfielder Addy Wilson collected a dish out from junior forward Aubrey Andrews, finding the back of the net in her first collegiate goal and grabbing her first collegiate points in the 51st minute of play. With Wilson’s score, the game went into a stalemate until the Bearcats broke through again in the 59th minute, when Andrews connected on a rebounded shot to score her first goal of the year and put McKendree in the lead at 2-1. McKendree held off the Bulldog attack with junior goalkeeper Peyton Baker holding the line as she totaled eight saves in the contest with seven in the latter half of the day.
Union managed to sneak in a second and game tying score in the 82nd minute with neither squad able to add another score to finish out the game.
