On Unsupervised with Syd and TP, hosts Syd Colson and Theresa Plaisance took a detour from basketball and life updates to talk about an unexpected headline: Lil Jon, at 54, made his bodybuilding debut at the 2025 Muscle Beach Championships.
The Grammy-winning rapper, best known for crunk anthems like “Snap Yo Fingers,” didn’t just show up—he placed third in the competition. The news had Colson and Plaisance reacting in equal parts admiration and amusement, and soon enough, their own Lil Jon stories came spilling out.
What followed was a mix of celebration, nostalgia, and some surprisingly personal tea involving a direct message from Lil Jon himself. And while the Muscle Beach stage delivered medals, a promised Soul Chakra swag bag never quite made it to Colson’s doorstep.
Lil Jon makes a bodybuilding splash
Colson lays out the headline that grabbed her attention: “Lil Jon made his official bodybuilding debut at 54 years old, placing third in the 2025 Muscle Beach Championships.”
The revelation had both hosts marveling at the pivot. After all, the man who once defined an era of party music is now flexing in front of judges. As Plaisance puts it, “Congratulations. Congrats on bronze, too. Oh, yeah. That’s incredible. Going from crunk cup to bodybuilding is quite the feat.”
The all-caps DM that started it all but went nowhere
Then Colson shares her own encounter with the rapper—though it happened through Instagram rather than on stage. She remembers, “All caps, mind you, in this message from him. And I don’t know if it’s an age thing, because my grandma also does it, or it’s just he’s always yelling.”
The DM read like pure Lil Jon energy: “What’s up? It’s Lil Jon and I just launched my new health and wellness brand, Soul Chakra. And I love to send you a promo package. Send me an address and it’s in the mail. If you like it and rock it, please tag.”
Colson was all in. “I said, hey, that’s what’s up, Lil Jon. I’d love to receive one. Here’s my addy.”
But the package never arrived. “I never got shit from you, Lil Jon,” she says, mock-disappointed.
Snapping fingers but still empty-handed
The missing swag bag turned into podcast comedy. Colson laughs it off with a throwback: “Maybe if I snap my fingers, then I’ll get one.”
Plaisance shows sympathy for her cohost: “I’m sorry that you had to experience that, because I know you were really looking forward to that.”
Plaisance continues, explaining why that match up made sense, “You also lead a life of health and fitness. So this was right up your alley.”
From “Snap Yo Fingers” to Soul Chakra
Even if Colson’s Soul Chakra package never shows up, Lil Jon’s evolution from King of Crunk to rising fitness star deserves a round of applause. His resilience and ability to adapt to new challenges? Inspiring.
Whether he’s hyping clubs, lifting trophies, or sliding into DMs, Lil Jon keeps finding ways to surprise us. And even when the free gear doesn’t come through, the story is good enough to keep us laughing—even if the rapper-turned-bodybuilder still refuses to use his inside voice.
