History

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. | Kiwanis Stadium – McKendree University women’s soccer (8-1-4, 8-1-1 GLVC) captured a sixth shutout on the season with a 1-0 victory on the road at Illinois Springfield, which keeps the Bearcats atop the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings. The Bearcats currently hold 25 points in league play and with the win, clinched a berth into the GLVC Championship Tournament. McKendree gets back home to Leemon Field for Homecoming Weekend with contests against UIndy and Lewis on Friday, October 24, and Sunday, October 26.

The Bearcats looked to keep its position in the league standings during a road battle on Sunday, fighting to hold the top spot in the standings. McKendree jumped into action, putting up seven shots in the first half with three on-frame. In the 31st minute, the Bearcats broke through on a free kick as junior midfielder Maggie Gleckler blasted a missile to the upper corner for the 1-0 lead. McKendree held the 1-0 advantage into the halftime intermission.

In the second half, McKendree used strong defense to reject the UIS advances, facing eight shots with Baker grabbing four saves over the latter 45 minutes. Baker, with the result and her performance in goal, collected her sixth shutout of the campaign.

McKendree added three points in the league standings to move up to 25 total points with four games remaining, two home and two on the road.
